What is this scam?

Announcement robocalls are often legitimate. One positive use for announcement robocalls are from schools calling about a closure or early release. Municipalities may also use robocalling to provide information about everything from a change in the garbage pick-up schedule to a natural disaster affecting the area. However, other announcement robocalls are not legitimate. Announcement scams may want you to take immediate action, provide payment, or verify personal details. Legitimate announcements typically do not request anything on your part except awareness. Scammers want more than that from you.
