Credit Card

Fake debt collector scam scum from India!! I could barely understand the scammer with his thick Indian accent! The scammer got my name right, but names, numbers, and addresses are widely and freely available to everyone, including scammers! But after he said my name, everything else that he tells me quickly reveals him to be a scammer! The scammer says that I owe money on an account. I immediately notice that he is being vague, which is a common trait with fake debt collection scams. I only have a mortgage and one Visa card that is paid-in-full every month. Car was paid off many years ago. So I ask this scam scum, "Who do I owe money to and how much do I owe?" The scammer replies, "Please tell me your Visa credit card number and Social Security number to prove your identity." I quietly smile to myself, knowing that real debt collectors do not ask for your SSN, and I play along by falsely telling the scammer, "I have more than 20 credit cards. I also have 4 Visa cards. Please tell me which card you are calling about and the exact amount that I need to pay you." The scammer makes up another lie and says, "You are overdue on your Citibank Visa. I cannot tell you the amount unless you tell me your Social Security number to prove your identity." I have never had any account or Visa card from Citibank and, again, no one has to tell their SSN to a legitimate debt collector. My cat-and-mouse game continues for about 20 minutes while I pretend to sound concerned and he continues to tell me nonsense, keeps asking for my credit card numbers, SSN, and also asks for my bank account and routing numbers, and he also says that I can pay by buying an eBay gift card and giving him the number code from it. Total b-s scam! I keep pausing him while I pretend to get my credit cards and checkbook and then I tell him several fake Visa card numbers (16 digits starting with 4) and I can hear him immediately trying to use each Visa card number that I tell him. He finally gives up, shouts profanities at me, and I start laughing. Note: This is NOT a call from Russia credit services as previously posted by the "Pros n Cons" user who is likely the Indian scammer himself who posted a fake comment to redirect the blame of phone scams to Russia, when the foreign accents of most phone scams are very obviously Indian and not Russian, with some Philippines scammers sometimes. If you watch enough news or movies that have Russians and Indians talking, you know that their accents differ considerably. In fact, I have never heard a single Russian-accent phone scammer. Russia and China government and individual thieves try to catch much bigger fish by hacking into business and government websites and email phishing, and the Indians also email you viruses. There are some RoboKiller comments saying that a call is legit that look like obvious disinformation campaigns posted by the scammers themselves. So just like there can be fake customer reviews on Amazon and fake movie reviews on IMDb praising a product or movie, you also have to watch out for fake RoboKiller comments saying that a call is valid lol! And always remember this: scammers can spoof a fake Caller ID name and number faster than you can change your underwear. I am still amazed at the number of people who claim that a fake number is valid just because the Caller ID looks legitimate.
