Nearly identical story as the one above. Called my place of employment for job verification, and I was the one to answer the call. Kept asking for my managers name, my full name and job title. Ended up hanging up, Googled the number - then contacted my potential new employer asking if they used a 3rd party job verification service; and they do not.

well scary thing is they had my: Name, employer who is doing the employment verification. and that I had put in notice with current employer. I wasn't expecting anyone to call ME about verifying my own experience, when I started, etc. She called once, could tell it was autodialer, then after 5 second pause I hanged up. I dialed back after finding this listing, she JUST called back. she keeps calling asking to 'verify employment'. when i say do you want me to verify my own employment? she hesitates. I guess I could just lie? first she wanted to know my job title, how long i've worked there. BUT I"M NOT EXPECTING A PHONE CALL WHATSOEVER. and there are so many scams these days. i've been in contact with the future employer by email, nothing was said about expecting a call by this 3rd party. anyway, I was polite and took the long walk out of the center of my work location to my car. didn't know why they called (3x now) for me to verify my own employment. either my current boss is pissed and set me up with this, or my future employer (whom they had right) set it up and this 3rd party just screwed up 3x. I'd answer more questions if I had known this was coming. but she kept asking to speak to someone who can verify employment. I had to tell her this was my personal cell she was calling. even if they are legit, they clearly don't know what they are doing. and HOW else did they get my future employer's name? i've told nobody but the upcoming employer and my current contract boss.
