Unk. female called from 866-558-1916 and said my credit card account was past due and wanted me to set up a payment to take care of it right away. She said she needed my payment information. I told her I would not give out information over the phone to someone I did not know. She said to call the number on the back of my card and hung up. I called the credit card company and they said I did the right thing by not giving out any information and my account was not past due.

American-accented lady says she is with Bank of America and that my BoA Visa card payment is past due. Only one itsy bitsy problem here... I have always only used 1 Visa card that accrues frequent flyer miles, with no other retail credit cards, and that Visa card issuer is not BoA. She got my name right. Out of curiosity, and just to mess with her, I asked her how much was on my bill (I always fully pay off every Visa card bill from my other non-BoA bank). She told me something like "$587.22". Again without telling her that I have never had a BoA credit card, I then asked her what Visa card number she had on file with me, or at least tell me the last 4 digits of my Visa card number. She instead flipped my inquiry around and asked me to verify my Visa card number! Feeling annoyed, I told her, "I asked you first. I'll show you mine if you show me yours." lol At this point, she hung up on me. After the call, I went to https://www.bankofamerica.com/customer-service/contact-us/credit-card/ and phone the 800.732.9194 BoA 24/7 credit card customer service number, and BoA does not recognize this "866-558-1916". BZZZT! SCAMMER ALERT! Moral of my story: beware of fake debt collectors, especially those calling with Indian accents (I get those Indian fraudsters calling every month too)!
