What is this scam? How do I determine if this is a scam?
Sales offer scams offer products or services for sale. Phony products and services are often involved. Occasionally, the products will be real -- but priced with an absurd mark-up. These robocalls often target businesses, but individuals also fall prey to sales offer robocalls. A popular version of the telemarketer offer targets businesses with office supplies. Scammers reference a former employee's contract with their company or "discounted" prices to entice the employee to pay or provide personal information. These office supplies are either entirely fake or ridiculously high-priced. Scammers will often request payment in non-standard currencies: gift cards and wire transfers are favorites of sales offer scammers. Always be cautious of any unsolicited sales offer received over the phone. In many cases, they are simply scams.
