I received a text message saying there was a potential fraud charge ($185 TikTok purchase) using my First Tech Credit Union debit card. I was asked to confirm or deny if I attempted the purchase. I denied the charge by responding "NO". A few minutes later, I received a phone call from 1-855-571-0330, which I didn't answer. I logged into my bank account and checked all my recent debit transactions, but I didn't see the attempted TikTok charge. I called my credit union number on the back of my card, and I asked if there was a TikTok charge. They confirmed someone indeed tried to make the charge, and it was blocked, which is why it didn't show up in my transaction history. They also let me know that there was an earlier $0 charge (not by me), likely used to test if my card was active. With the help of my credit union, I cancelled my card, and I'll receive a new one with a new number in a week. MAIN POINT: The call from 1-855-571-0330 IS NOT a scam. It's a fraud protection company used by various credit unions. Call your credit union to address the issue.
