June 24, 2020
This is not a scam number, they are doing a followup on the information you already provided. They do not ask for personal information, they do not ask for your social security number, they do not ask anything but who lived in your house as of April 1st. That's all and that is all the census form asks. It may be that because of the covid thing many of the forms did not get mailed.
June 23, 2020
These guys spoof what is supposed to be a legitimate number. Do not engage in any conversations, simply hang up. They are after your information, the government is not going to call you.

Beware if you get a call from these people they are looking at scamming you by stealing your information pretending to be someone from the census bureau DONT GIVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR LIFE OR FINANCIAL INFORMATION EVER ON THE PHONE UNLESS YOU CALLED THE ACTUAL GOVERNMENT NUMBERS AND NOT THE NUMBERS THEY TELL YOU TO CALL BACK TO VERIFY THEY ARE WHO THEY ARE. Remember, they will just answer the bogus number they give you as the Census Bureau or the social security office etc.
June 18, 2020
The caller said he was from the Census Bureau 2020 and that they wanted to very my information that I had provided. He called me at around 7:30 pm,used my name and gave me my address. Then he asked me questions that I had answered in the Census 2020. He had a foreign accent and didn't read the names properly. So I stayed 1 more minute to see where this was going. When he started asking for more personal information I ended the call. I Googled to see if the phone number was legit from Census.gov and found a post saying it is from Census but then I kept reading and got to this page. I guess it's difficult to say but better to be safe than sorry so I hung up.

June 10, 2020
Legitimate call from US Census Bureau needing to confirm college student's residency. They did not ask for any personal info and mostly just verified info they already had. As one of the other guests mentioned, this number is also clearly stated on the Census Bureau web site at : https://2020census.gov/en/ways-to-respond/responding-by-phone.html

I do not believe this was a scam. The woman on the phone was professional, and did not ask for any PII (personally identifying information) as the US Government defines it.
June 9, 2020

June 8, 2020
NOT A SCAM. Quick questions about the census
June 6, 2020
This is NOT a scam. Census is calling to follow up on what you reported on your census form. Clarification on who lives in house and whether college age student lives away or home. I called the Census contact number on the government website at 844-330-2020 to confirm that it was a legitimate request for information prior to calling back the 844-809-7717 number. You will need the ID provided in the recorded message when you call back.

LEGIT CALL. I called back, they wanted to verify if I had a college student living at home. I hate scammers as much as the next guy, but this is LEGIT- and the census is important. It's how the government allocates resources and how many electoral votes a state gets. You should call back.

June 2, 2020
It is a legit number. You can go to their website and the phone number is on there.
June 2, 2020
I called the number back after looking on Google. I get enough scam calls, so I was leary. However, they confirmed the names of the people living in my house, so they don't get left out or counted more than once. We have a college student in our household and they wanted to make sure that he wasn't counted more than once. That was all, call was done. Took about 3 mins, even though she told me it'd take 7 minutes.
June 1, 2020
I went on the US Census Bureau’s website and this is their number: Call Center: 301-763-INFO (4636) or 800-923-8282 or ask.census.gov. I called too early to get someone live, but I’m going to call again and find out if the 844 number is legit from them. I’m thinking it isn’t. If it is correct, I’ll update the category.
June 1, 2020
Valid call, checked US Census website for number and found it. Person had information from census submission. Validating information to ensure people only counted once. Mainly interested in college students who may be submitted by their college.
June 1, 2020
I did not answer the call but decided to call the number back to see how it answered. The auto response said “Census Bureau” and I was immediately connected to an agent. I hung up because I do not believe this is the Census Bureau. No govt entity answers on a Saturday and not that quickly either way.
May 30, 2020
This is definitely legitimate. I googled the number as someone else said and it was legitimate. I called and they only asked for my case # which had been provided in the voicemails I had received. Then they asked to verify the names of the persons I had listed on my census and they said the names first. I do think the purpose of their call to me was to make sure that I had claimed my college student as a permanent resident of my home. Quick call back and no problems. RoboKiller should be reporting this number as legit.

They called me and I missed the call. I returned it and gave the ID number. It sounded suspicious and I was guarded. The representative stated he did not have my answers there but was calling to verify. I asked if you don't have my answers, then how can you verify. He then begin asking questions about my daughter and her address at school. What does this have to do with anything. I told him I didn't know it. Then he wanted the name of the school. I asked for his name and he gave me his first name. I just don't trust this.

May 29, 2020
Legitimate call from Census Bureau. I called them back and answered about 10 questions to confirm what they had on the form submitted, mostly just confirming who lived where and when. Took about 5 minutes total.
May 29, 2020
Was getting a couple of calls from this number every week. Since the voicemail was automated (but official-sounding, I might add), I presumed it was a scam using a spoofed number that was the 2020 Census's helpline. After over a month of these calls, I dialed the number back (rather than just tapping the "call back," since the missed call was identified as spam). A representative quickly answered my call and asked for my Census ID and name. She checked and informed me that my case was closed (meaning I filled out the census with no issues). She then put me on hold briefly to check whether there was some underlying problem with my census filing. When she picked back up, she apologized that there was a technical difficulty with the lookup system. The representative politely told me that I was free to call back, but there did not seem to be a need to and hopefully they will take me off their call list. BOTTOM LINE: it is very unlikely that this is a scam call. My call back was odd, but not suspicious (i.e. no attempts to solicit sensitive information). If it is not a scam call, I would recommend the U.S. Census Bureau tell you in their voicemail why they are trying to contact you.
May 28, 2020
Legitimate Census phone number. Confirming answers to census.
May 28, 2020
THIS IS A VALID US CENSUS REQUEST TO CONFIRM INFORMATION. THEY ONLY REQUEST YOU CONFIRM HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS HAVE BEEN COUNTED AND ONLY COUNTED ONCE. Robokiller is listing this number as a "negative" reputation and recommends "blacklist", but the overwhelming majority of reports indicate, correctly, that this is a GENUINE CENSUS REQUEST TO CONFIRM DATA ALREADY SUBMTTED. The phone number is listed on the census website and easy to confirm. They did not ask me for information other than to confirm what I had already provided. ROBOKILLER is being disingenuous by listing this number as a negative and blacklisting it. They need to independently confirm information to validate the claims of posters.

We have already filled out the US Scamsus - Said it would take minimal time - It did - Now they want to use more of my time??? - THey have threaten me with Jail 10 years ago, because I refused to give them any information on the Long Form - This is a waste of MY MONEY - there should be minimal taxes - ALL YOU who say to be counted are including ILLEGAL TRESPASSER in this country - They take money away from me (Taxes) to give to these Criminals - Get rid of all the Social Services.
May 27, 2020
This was a legitimate call from the US Census regarding addresses during school year for our two boys who are college students. They wanted to make sure they were not counted twice.
May 27, 2020
This is not a scam. They are checking all college students to see if they were counted just once not twice. COVID-19 has made this census a challenge for reporting college students that normally live away from home.
May 27, 2020
Claimed to be US Census but could not answer basic questions and confirm the city from where she was calling. Lots of VOIP lag consistent with many other international scams.
May 27, 2020
This is legit. It is the Census 2020. From the Census 2020 website: "If you think you missed a call from the Census Bureau (or actually received one) but want to confirm the legitimacy of the call, call 844-809-7717 (English) or 844-809-7718 (Spanish) to speak with a local Census Bureau representative. Our business hours are 7:00am to 12:00am Eastern Time, Monday through Sunday."
May 26, 2020
Legit. 844-809-7717 is listed at: https://2020census.gov/en/ways-to-respond/responding-by-phone.html Gentleman on phone just asking to confirm info he had on file. Didn't ask for SS# or credit card or anything. Just the city and state my daughter's college campus was in because she lived there, not at home.

May 26, 2020

May 25, 2020
This is legitimate. Verified the number via US Census call center, then called these guys back. It was a follow-up about college-age child to make sure they were not counted twice at college and at home. They say the call will take about 7 minutes, but it took less than 5 minutes.
May 25, 2020
This was a legitimate call. Survey took approximately 7 minutes. Did not ask for any information other than confirming what I had submitted on the census form.
May 24, 2020
It's legit - US Census Bureau
May 23, 2020
Legitimate call. I hung up the first time, researched the number, then called back. They just wanted to verify what was already on the Census form. They already had full names, addresses and everything. The call is simply confirm what was provided and to make changes if necessary.

May 20, 2020
I would definitely let this call go to voice mail in case someone is spoofing the caller id, but if they leave a message with an ID# asking you to call this number back, it's legitimate. In my case, they were double checking my survey because I have two kids that are in college, and they needed more info to ensure they weren't counted more than once. Also double checking no one else was living in my home on April 1. They clearly had the information from my submitted census form. Don't take my word for this either. Do your due diligence - you will find this number on official census.gov web sites. You can call another known number for the census, and they will verify this as legitimate. Call your representative, or someone in your local government if you are unsure. But don't just ignore (for one thing, they will continue calling you until you respond :) ). Please take this seriously - there are people in government and on the internet who would like nothing more than for you to write this off as a scam and be under counted in this year's census.
May 19, 2020
This is NOT a Scam. It's a legitimate phone number (towards the bottom of their website: https://2020census.gov/en/ways-to-respond/responding-by-phone.html), for the United States Census Bureau. They probably either have an additional question to confirm with you or it's a follow-up random Survey that they conduct with some people.
May 16, 2020
Claimed to be census representative. Needed information but claimed that their computer was down and they could not access my records. They called twice with the same claim.
May 16, 2020
Legitimate call.
May 16, 2020
I decided to call them back to see what they would ask, they only asked about what was actually on my census form. I have one child that goes to college away from home, but has my address as the permanent address, so she asked what city she was in when in school, but did not ask me for an address for her there, which I would not have given out. I am confident that this was the Census Bureau.
May 16, 2020
This is a legit call- thry provided the info I had sent to the US Census (names of family members) and didn’t ask any additional info. They just wanted to verify that the people listed in my family were staying in the house on April 1st.

May 15, 2020
They keep calling and want me to answer questions that will take 7-10 minutes about other questions that were not on my Census survey. Told them no I would not, since I already filled out my census and that is the only information they are entitled to. They keep calling back and leaving very intimidating messages to call them back right away. Time to block them.
May 15, 2020
Not sure if it was the census or not. But guy had heavy accent, and could not even pronounce our names correctly. Also asked if he could record call, but did not understand when I told him he did not need permission. Between not knowing state law, and having a heavy accent, I tagged him as a scam. US Census workers should be US citizens. Period.
May 14, 2020
CALLED - THEY JUST WANTED TO VERIFY THE PEOPLE IN THE HOUSE. THEY HAD ALL THE INFORMATION AND DID NOT ASK ME FOR ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES WHAT I PUT ON THE CENSUS FORM TO VERIFY WHO LIVED THERE. CALLED THE #844-809-7717. NOT A SCAM CALL.
May 14, 2020
SAFE CALL. I did not return the call at this number. I looked up the official number on the census.gov website and asked if this was legit. The rep had to dig around for it and she finally transferred me to their OUTBOUND group and they said it was a valid call. They had all the information I had filled out on the survey and asked me to verify what I had already provided. Did NOT ask for SS#, Bank# or any other sensitive information.

This is a legitmate number for the US Census Bureau. They called to confirm information previously submitted online; they are trying to make sure no one is uncounted or counted more than once.
May 12, 2020
The census called and left a message to call back to 844-809-7717. I called back and it was legitimate. They didn't ask any personal information, and they already had my census information when I called as I did it on-line earlier this year.

You will find it listed there. They are just verifying that everyone listed in your census was actually living at your address on April 1, 2020.
May 11, 2020
This is not a scam. This is a call from the U.S. Census Bureau asking about the people listed on the census you filled out. They just want to make sure that everyone listed on the census actually lived at your address on April 1, 2020 and don't usually live somewhere else. In my case, I do have a son who was listed on the census who lives on campus when he is at college and on April 1st, he was on campus working as an R.A. when the census workers visited the campus. They just want to make sure people are not counted twice.
