I had the identical experience this afternoon. Caller ID came up as Chase. I was suspicious from the beginning, and they had an answer for every question I asked. Eventually they wanted me to "add" the "case number" to my payee list in my Zelle account so they could "Void" the transactions. The case number looked like a phone number with the 609 area code. I told them I wasn't comfortable with anything they were asking and I would call Chase customer service myself, which I did. No one tried to open an account in my name!

Call from scammer posing as JP MORGAN CHASE fraud department, concerning a ZELLE account transfer. The caller ID did show up as “Chase Bank”, but it appears the ID# is spoofed. (800-848-9380). Phishing call SCAM. BEWARE!!!!!

Rec’d Call from 800-848-9380, caller ID was “Chase bank” & representative ID’d themselves as Chase Fraud. Rep stated someone used my phone# to open 2 transactions thru ZELLE ($1500 & $1000). Rep gave me a reference # for the “case” & gave me a reference # for each of the alleged ZELLE transactions. Rep wanted to transfer me to a manager so I could give the info he had provided to me, to his manager. Then they could nullify or void the ‘fraudulent ZELLE transfers’ that they had uncovered. Makes no sense - I ended the call. It was a scam - but really sounded like they had their talking points down… I’m sure they have been successful with this scam before.

Claimed someone had tried to Zelle themselves as well as put a large charge on my card. They then tried to get me to Zelle a different number to “confirm a cancellation.”

someone spoofed the Chase 800-848-9380 tel no, called saying there was a fraud alert of unauthorized user trying to open an online account, and then transferred the call to a Zelle representative to cancel suspected fraudulent Zelle payments. They directed me to add Eddie Diaz (supposedly the Zelle fraud manager) and the case number (scam tel no 408-839-0541) as a recipient in advance of cancelling the transactions. This seemed itself fraudulent, so I did not do this and disconnected.

spoke as if they were with chase. Said someone an attempt to open a chase account, then proceeded to say a zelle payment was attempted to be made and gave me a phone number of the person requesting payment. I called that number, and they proceeded to say the same thing happened to them. BEWARE DO NOT ANSWER!!
