Just got a call from 1-800-745-0572. Caller spoke very quickly and claimed to be from Verizon with a great offer. This appeared to be a spam call when I asked for information they might have about my account the caller couldn’t answer. Seems like spam. Blocked the number.

SCAMMER - They say they are from Verizon, you must act to prevent your service from being cancelled. This Is A Scam. Verizon will never force you to give them any payment info over the phone. Hang up and call Verizon using a number you get from their website. Or better use the mobile app and check your status. These thieves try to pressure to act immediately, you will never have to act that second. Take a breath, be skeptical, AND NEVER GIVE PAYMENT INFO OR ACCESS TO YOUR BANKING BECAUSE SOMEONE CALLED YOU. Be Safe and Think before you Act.

Called and left a voice mail. Was legitimately the local Verizon store offering me the current deal. Call back number they left was 100% the Verizon store in town, as was the address they said. I'm sure for some this number is used as a scam but for me it was not.

The scam begins with a pre-recorded message speaking English that is generated using text-to-speech software to disguise the origin of this India scam. This scam message has been adjusted for numerous scam versions to say either your Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, credit card, cable TV, or electric service will be disconnected or suspended unless you talk to a fake customer service agent. If you answer the call, the India scammer pretends to be a fake company representative and tells you that your bill is overdue or your account has been suspended, and he tries to steal your cell phone PIN, Social Security number, credit card number, and/or bank account/routing number so they can steal thousands of dollars. The scammer may use alternate scripted scams that offer you a new phone and calling plan. About 50% of North America scam calls come from India and 45% come from the Philippines. Foreign scammers run thousands of fraud, extortion, money laundering scams every day such as posing as a fake pharmacy, fake Social Security officer saying your benefits are suspended, IRS officer collecting on fake unpaid back taxes, debt collector threatening you for fake unpaid bills, fake bank/financial/FedEx/UPS/DHL scams, posing as utility/phone/internet companies, pretending to offer fake health insurance, car warranty, student loan forgiveness, credit card and debt consolidation services, posing as Amazon to falsely say an unauthorized purchase was made to your credit card, posing as Microsoft/Dell/HP/Apple to say your account has been hacked or they detected a virus on your computer, fake "we are refunding your money" or "your account has been auto-debited" scams, fake Google/Alexa listing scams, fake solar panel and home purchase offers, fake fundraisers asking for donations, fake phone surveys, and the scammers try to steal your financial and personal data. One myth is that saying "yes" to IVR lets scammers use your voice sample for other scams. IVR understands basic replies and yes/no answers. To test for IVR, ask "How is the weather there?" since IVR cannot answer complex questions. IVR usually transfers you to the scammer, but some scams entirely use IVR with the robot asking for your credit card or SSN. Phone/email scams share two common traits: the CID name/number and the "From:" header on emails are easily faked, and the intent of scam calls is malicious just as file attachments and website links on scam emails are harmful. Scams snowball for many victims. If your personal/financial data are stolen, either by being scammed, visiting a malicious website, or by a previous data breach of a business server that stores your data, then your data gets sold by scammers on the dark web who will see you as fresh meat and prey on you even more. This is why some receive 40+ scam calls everyday while others get only 0 to 2 calls per week. If you provide your personal data to a phone scammer, lured by fake 80%-discounted drugs or fake loan and debt services, you receive even more phone scams and identity theft can take years to repair. Scammers often shout profanities at you. Google "Hindi swear words" and memorize some favorites, e.g. call him "Randi Ka Beta" (son of whore) or call her "Randi Ka Betty" (daughter of whore). Scammers ignore the National Do-Not-Call Registry. Asking scammers to stop calling is useless. Scam recordings often tell you to press a keypad number to be placed on their Do-Not-Call list or to unsubscribe from their scam texts/emails, but those keypad commands are fake and they say that just to sound legit. Scammers often provide a toll-free callback number to look like a real business, but they regularly shed old callback numbers so you can never reach the scammers once you have realized that you were scammed. Scammers tell you their callback number just to gain your trust long enough to steal your identity and money and then they frequently switch to using new callback numbers. You do these scammers a favor by quickly hanging up. YOU SHOULD SCAMBAIT ALL SCAMMERS - slowly drag scammers along on the phone call, provide fake personal and financial data (16 random digits starting with 4 for Visa, 5 for MasterCard), ask them to speak louder and repeat what they said to waste their time and energy.

I called the number back from a different phone line. I hung up right after I heard their voices and called Verizon. They spoofed Verizon number. Verizon is aware of this number and it is on the black list. 800-745-0572 is not on Verizon business or mobile account number. Please do not give them any information as they are trying to collect information out of you to fraud you. I wish these people would stop thinking Americans have all this money. We are all trying to make a living like everyone else. I see people in their 70s still working because of bills or trying to gather the money back they lost from scammers. I pray with all of me, that someone could actually put a stop to these people from scamming innocent people.

I played along with this scammer for about 40 minutes while cooking, feeding him lots of nonsense information. This scammer even yelled at me "are you playing with me?", and I replied, "No, my Diners Club card works, you need to try it again, I need to pay my bill so please do not suspend my account." After about 40 minutes, he repeatedly yelled the rudest profanities at me, and I could not stop laughing. About 55% of North America scam calls come from India and 40% come from the Philippines. To add .. Verizon sales offer on phone - woman asked if this was me - foolishly said yes, and she then gave me sales offer - I declined. She hung up abruptly. The odd thing though, it showed I called her on my phone after she hung up - i did no such things and is making me nervous.
