Received text from (800) 410-9010 claiming to be Verizon (verizon doesn't text from standard phone numbers and this is likely spoofed) asking me to call (866) 483-7200 about my recent purchase. I called my local Verizon Sales Rep instead, who directed me to their official Customer Service. Nothing wrong with my account. Everything is paid, current, up to date. Interestingly, while the voicemail from the same 800 number also requests I call the 866 number (now blocked), the original text message disappeared (recalled). But hooray for screenshots! I know a few messaging services that can recall messages as well as agents working for governments (no, not a conspiracy theorist, friend works in tech security). Sadly, my number has been leaked on the dark web so I receive texts and spam calls in four (4) different languages that I'm familiar with. My number recently got added to an unrelated messaging app group in Russian (5th language). I don't know why they're targeting me. If they actually had any of my financials, they'd quickly discover I'm on a low fixed income with zero credit cards. Good luck with *that*! Hahahahaha! Don't scambait as one person suggested. How do you think I started getting texts and calls in multiple languages? I toyed with a pig butcher and instead of installing software to give them remote access to set up a NFT account that I was allegedly supposed to seed (as if!), I told them I was installed a Cold Wallet on my device first to protect our nest egg [prevents hackers from gaining access]. So, after swearing profusely and screaming at me– I guess they sold my number on the dark web in retaliation. Besides, it's also possible that some people may have been trafficked and forced to engage in these scams, which may be morally ambiguous to some but to me they are victims first and foremost.

Scam

They act as Verizon and then send you a text (looks like Verizon) but it is not DO NOT CLICK on it, you will be giving them access to your account. I have spoken to Verizon several times, almost at the point of cancelling my Verizon account. It is very frustrating, I really wish someone would step up and eliminate these types of scams, costing the consumer millions of dollars a year!
