The second comment seems to contradict the first comment - scam vs legitimate. I guess that means the caller referenced in the second comment SPOOFED the number. So we should hang up on the caller and use a different bank number like the 844 number.

It's a legitimate call to confirm a credit card charge. However if you return the call it will ask for personal information. I was uncomfortable with this. I called 844-4TRUIST and straightened out the credit card and also verified that this number (800) 229-1462 is legitimate.

Phony call from scammer pretending to be Truist bank calling about a fraudulent charge. They won't have your credit card number, or even the last 4 digits, so you know they are a scam. I told the lady I was onto their scam and she hung up.

Had trouble at the POS with cashier at Walmart. Tried twice to charge my groceries. Had to go to Customer Service in the store to try to more times until the card was successfully accepted and I could leave with my purchases. Was texted and emailed about possible fraud purchase at Walmart. I responded that the final charge was accurate. Then, started receiving numerous calls/voicemails from the Truist Fraud Department. Finally did answer and had a bad connection, so I hung up. Second time I spoke with someone, I was asking them to quit calling, I had already indicated via text and email that the charge was legit. "Truist Teammate" asked to verify either my credit card number or my social security number for security reasons. After 35 years with BB&T/Truist, I already knew better than that. I told the lady that our bank would NEVER ask for that over the phone and that she was a scammer prior to hanging up on her.

Comments here saying "it's a bank; I called the number" are poor responses. NEVER call the number from a text, email, etc. ALWAYS check for the company's number online and call that to be sure. Scammers give a number and of course they're going to say that they are the bank.

I contacted Truist fraud prevention through the phone number on their website. They confirmed that this number is legitimate and specifically used to deal with credit card related fraud.

Made a large purchase on eBay last night and got a text from Truist asking if it was legitimate. I said Yes. Early this morning, I got a call from this number and I did not answer. Googling the number brought me here. Clearly a scam. Had this happen years ago with Truist too and it was a very elaborate call center scam to get my money.
