They call and say that you have a case of back taxes or taxes not being filed correctly, and that they can help you but it's time sensitive, but if you call back at a different number, they can help you, as they have immediate access to your case. They will also give you a reference number. (The other number i was given is 877-579-2696) This is a scam. The IRS will never have someone else contact you about back taxes. You will never receive a call that there is something wrong with your taxes or tax filing status from them. you will only ever get PAPER MAIL from the IRS, or see that there is an issue on the official website, and then YOU can call them. It will never be the other way around, and it will never be through another proxy.
