Why they cold-call random people, most of whom don't even own businesses, and make themselves look bad is beyond me. They should not be robocalling random people for any reason, least of all for the purpose of making their own service better. If a company wants to update the hours on Google, then that's their prerogative. But Google spamming them with calls to make their own service better is the definition of spam. I just got a call, didn't answer, and they hung up. But if others are correct that this is a robo call from Google to verify hours, it might be a correct possibility. I handle multiple business listings on Google maps and lately they've been asking me online if the hours are correct for businesses all around me. So this might be legit. I might have to answer if they call back just to find out.

If your business is listed through Google Business (which is probably is), this number will call you to update whatever they need on their end; you'd just have to give it answers it would recognize. It's machine learning. It's weird, and might be a little scary since it sounds so weird, but it's all real.

First of all, just because the number is the same as Google Maps number doesn't mean it is from Google Maps!! There are apps that can disguise any phone to make it say any number. I know because I got scammed out of 1,000 from a call claiming to be the electric company. I checked the number on my computer while talking to the guy and it WAS their number. However, it wasn't the electric company and after sending them money so my business's electricity wouldn't be turned off, I called back the number and got the real electric company. They told me it was a scam. I wasn't even behind on my electric bill, but thought maybe it was and it was an oversight and believed it BECAUSE it was the right number. Anyway, I had "Google Maps" call me about holiday hours today too. It seemed legit, but everywhere I read says that Google will NEVER call you! It says, if someone calls claiming to be from Google, or Google maps they are a LIAR!! Plain and simple!!! Just wondering what their end game is.

This number continues to call AFTER Christmas. I didn't answer - maybe "he" is now asking about new years day?!

The first time I heard it, I was a little unsettled. But this time - he said that he's an automated recording. Which TOTALLy makes sense with the way he says "I'm sorry, you said you were closed for Christmas" Because the way I worded it, triggered that we were closed but I said we had no hours for Christmas.

hi, this is just a recording with an intuitive response mechanism. It will listen to what you say, and then will most likely repeat it back to you. You could sing to it and it wouldn't care, as long as you tell them if your business is closed. If you google ANY company, they usually have their hours of operation- they use the information to update it, mostly for holidays. Hope that eases some concerns.

Guy called and asked if we were open on Christmas, asked twice. I repeated the same answer, and he hung up. About 20 minutes later he called again. The replies he was giving didn't even make sense. I called our local police and let them know about this, and asked if they could check on our office on the holiday to make sure nothing fishy is going on. The police were very helpful!

Anytime you get a call telling you that you are on a recorded line and then they ask you a question, never say "yes". You can say "you are correct" but do not say "yes"
