This number called me at 4:02 on 12/19/25 scheduling a non medical review for 12/20/25 (a Saturday) she said she was calling from the Oneonta NY office but the area code is NYC. Anytime I needed a non Medical review done I always have received a letter in the mail about 2 weeks before the appointment date. Also never had an appointment with them on Saturday. I tried calling the Oneonta office after hanging up the call but they close at 4pm and it was already past 4pm so I’ve bee unable to see if this was a legit call or not. Also when I tried calling the number back all it said was it was an outgoing number only or the number is not in service. Just really weird to me

They called 8 a.m. to give schedule an appointment with the SSA. I was suspicious, but I told them I wouldn't give any information. They still gave me an appointment for noon today, and when I went to the SSA office at the time, I confirmed that the caller wasn't spam and that the appointment was valid. When I asked why they were calling from a different state, they said they used a Google number, so the caller ID showed it as calling from another state. So, don't worry, it's not a scam

If this is a SS #no its only shows up on my caller ID as (public service,) which isnt really identifiable, then how does someone know if it spam, or scam or really SOCIAL SECURITY How does someone know if a call that shows as (Public service) is legit? Ssa or any other gov entity I received a call from ID ( public service) and when answered after 3 rings was hung up on All the no's I have For SSA are labeled as such in my contacts

He almost got everything from me before I realized what was happening. I disconnected immediately and before he called back, I was finishing up the form to report it to SS. I don't know what happens now.

Filed for a friend to SSI (using my number as primary contact) on Wednesday. Got a text from local office on Friday. Then this number called first thing, early Monday. Calling back Friday's number instead, but seems legitimate due to timing.

"Hello, I am calling from the Social Security Administration. If you wish to file for benefits please call (800) 771-1213 and schedule a telephone appointment. Again that's (800) 771-1213. Thank you." A young woman's voice, it is not a real person talking though, there is not enough breaks to breathe. Came from the 646 number, but the phone number given is for the Social Security Office in, but I live in a different county.

I have had a phone appointment from my local Social Security Office and someone has called me from this mentioned number… she asked for my name and address.. I’m quite sure this is a legit number
