Person with heavy foreign accent pretended to be from Amazon to stop fraudulent purchase in another state. Connected me to another in the fraud department who then pretended to connect me to the FTC. Said someone opened 7 bank accounts using my personal info trying to launder money in other countries and that there was an arrest warrant. They wanted to help but I could not go 'public'. Tried to get bank amount balance - (didn't ask for bank acct # and I wouldn't give out any information anyway..). I was at my computer and pulled up FTC #. He actually called me back allegedly from the FTC main line (although came through as spam so then I told him that I would call him back. He said that's their toll free #. It was not (which is also on the FTC site). He got beliggerent and hung up. I then called the FTC to report it. She said there definitely is a fraud going around pretending to be from Amazon. She told me to put my credit on fraud alert with Trans Union for 1 year and Trans Union would provide the information to the other two credit agencies.
