I just received 3 calls from this number before I blocked it. I received the same message as the above from the number (570)426-5940 yesterday that stated: hello this is Venmo's fraud prevention department calling we have detected an attempt to create a new account under the name of Patricia Thomas from Windsor California 95492 if this was not you please press 1 to cancel this registration from an automated caller yesterday at another phone number that I also blocked after pressing 1 the first time. Initially I thought it was legit. After pushing 1 it said: "We sent you a text with a security code please tell me the code number- to my surprise I did receive a text from the scammer that said: Venmo here! NEVER share this code via call/text. ONLY YOU should enter the code. BEWARE: if someone asks for the code, it's a scam. (with a code number) This made me uncomfortable and at this point I blocked the number- I did not give them the code. As I began to investigate I discovered this was a fraud scam. I am commenting to get this info out there since they are attempting again to call my phone through this new number: (518)906-6033 This time I did not even answer it, I immediately blocked them after their 3rd attempt calling back to back. I really hope this helps someone.
