What is this scam? How do I determine if this is a scam?
Medical robocalls are often scams, especially when callers offer medical products or services. Legitimate medical offices may call about an upcoming appointment, or to provide test results -- but legitimate medical providers rarely (if ever) offer products and services over the phone. There are a number of different medical offer type scams. Medical offer scams may target individuals, attempting to extract personal information, bank details, or payment. In these cases, robocallers may use tactics such as an expired insurance card, cheaper new insurance, or other incentives to get your details. A variant of this scam involves billing Medicare for overpriced products. You may receive a knee or back brace "for free" -- and Medicare is later billed for the product. Your personal information is safe -- but these medical robocalls are defrauding taxpayers of millions of dollars through Medicare.
