Montgomery AL Area & Vicinity Possibly
Asked for company name. English-speaking male, just replied with the name "Jack," stating he'd called for me (gave my name with correct pronounuation and Mr/Ms title. He stated he had called to buy my home, which isn't for sale.
I abruptly let him know he's breaking the law as my phone number has been on a Do Not Call list with the FCC since the girst day the DNC list started. (And it is now a cell phone number too, which are to be forbidden to be called especially via non-creditors and/or charities
I didn't tell him that.) I just quickly hung up and blocked the phone number. It was already denoted as "Potential Spam" via the Carrier and I have phone set so it never rings on non-Contact phone numbers.
I just happened to see the call come in trying to use the phone. And Potential Spam doesn't describe the call detailed enough to know who may have really called or what type of Pitential Fraud/Scam the call is connected.
I prefer to note a better description in Address Book, so I know and have info. for future calls/references. I'm just a very curious person. I set the Fraud/Scam contact in Address Book demoting the date, time, and any other information Iay have on the caller such as Caller/Co. name, Address, City/State, etc and for what the caller claimed to be calling. Then I put #1, or other # out by the time to the right tobcoorespond to above #. If a other call comes in of same scam/City/State then I in increase that # for that phone # out to the left of that call time to keep up with each phone # & date/time, City/State, etc. of each # that called.
Note: If you report calls to the FCC, they .ust know the exact time of the call, date, and the number that called (& your phone # too. I think you don't have to give your name and possibly not your phone #, but it might help them catch scammers, if they are really using a Cell and/or Landline phone.
After Blocking appropriate phone mumbers (my TCL phone requires blicking both Restricted versions of the number(s) and the +1 or other format of the Incoming Scam phone number. It doesn't automatically block all versions of the phone mumber like all prior phones I've had. (Block All restricted calls in under your Settings, yet must Switch Off if expecting sn Unknow/Possibly Restr8cted Call (zsnd reset it onve Callbis rrceived or time has past.)
After Creating the Fraud/Scam Entry, Save the Contact and Ser aRingtonevto "No Ringtone," if possible. Prior phones didn't jave thos capability. You can automatically send the Call to Voice Mail. And if you don't eantvto waste Data listening to afraudsters /Scammers, don't delete your VM msgs. Once it is Full leave it Full so the Fraudster Can't Call you back at least from the known Scam/,Fraud numbers you do know/have on them. They can't even text uou from thodr phone mumbers once blocked.
If you've never set up your VM or Not put a name on it they won't really knowvyour real aiF 7nlessvyo7 tell them or give it to them or they know you. Ask your Carrier for help if yousy merd you may need to Reset your VM for Security and/or Safety, should you have prior put your name on the VM. Hopefully, they can do that easily for you without wiping out all phone data. Yet, it may take a while to fill up the VM or you can ask trusted friends/family to call & just tak to fill up the VM or you can do yourself vis another phone and/or landline phone.
But, most of these "Masked" calls or scam calls are made via a Voice over Internet Phone (VoIP) usually from outside the US (overseas or in the Carribean Islands, etc.) Thus, carriers have been flagging these calls, yet they aren't able to teace and/or identify (find) the Scammers quute as easily as they are using non-Contract devices usually and a PC or lsptop which they probably disconnect often. Yet, the IP Address abd lication can be tracked, it just takes much longer and doesn't always let them know, who may be responsible or made the actual call(s.)
Setting phone to "Do Nor Disturb" and Only Contacts under Settings, only rings on your known Address Book Callers, yet adding Known Fraud/Scam #'s, it may ring, if you don't nlock them, set ringer to an audie ringtone or just put the Blicked version of the number in your Address Book or have Off Do Not Disturb.
Note: I recently received a call with No preciding ,"1" or "+1.' I quickly founf out my zYCL pone doesn't map
Area Code - Prefix - Last 4 Digits
To Be Equal To
+1 Area Code + Prefix - Last 4 Digits So
I Had to Add the 10 -;digit # to my Entry for that Phone Number without a Preceding "1' or "+.'
Good Luck and Enjoy the Silence (without downloading orcoaing for another App. I use Call Filter via VZ (the Free-version.) It was loaded onto phone and is only the basic Free-version.)
