Typical "one-ring" scam. A "one-ring" phone scam happens when a robocaller makes your phone ring once before hanging up, hoping you'll call back to an international or premium-rate number (even though it appears to be a U.S. based or even local number), which generates hefty charges for you and pays the scammer. Do not call back numbers you don't recognize, especially if the call only rang once. You can avoid this scam by resisting the urge to return the call, blocking unknown numbers, and reporting suspicious activity to your phone carrier and consumer protection agencies.
