What is this scam? How do I determine if this is a scam?

Student loan robocalls are a twist on loan scams with a specific focus on student debt. This is a lucrative market for scammers, as student loans may be very large. Sometimes these scammers are just after your personal information. However, scammers may also offer payment reduction or debt forgiveness plans -- for a small fee, of course. Younger people are often victimized by these scammers. Young adults, with crushing student debt, often cannot resist the temptation of reduced payments or debt forgiveness. Be suspicious of any student loan offer received over the phone. Never make a payment to a student loan or debt relief organization that called you unsolicited.

Student Loans
Caller Name: Nadine Smith (from "the processing department")

Student loan scam - I have no student loans. Message left: "Hi this is Nadeen Smith calling in from the processing department. So sorry if you're busy. Um, I just had some fantastic news. It looks like there have been significant changes to your federal student loan repayment options. It's really really important, so if you can give me a call back as soon as possible today that would be great. My direct phone number is 714-406-4370. Again that is 714-406-4370 Also, if you could have your reference number ready for me that would be awesome. It would really help. Your reference number is 20907. Thank you. I look forward to speaking with you today." I have the recording - don't know how to upload to this site. Best to block the CID number and the call-back number.

Scam

This is a scam. A woman by Nadine Smith will leave a voicemail about student loans. She will also leave a number in the voicemail she will ask you to call. If you call them back they will try to get your SSN and your bank account information. I advise to block the number. The same "company" also called me a second time an hour after the first call but with a different number since I blocked 256-786-8404. The second SCAM number is (253) 780-7679. If this second number calls you, it is the same scam.
