Fake "your computer subscription will be auto-renewed" scam call from India criminals This is a fake "your computer subscription will be auto-renewed" scam by criminals robo-dialing from India. The scam begins with a pre-recorded robotic person speaking English that is generated using text-to-speech software to disguise the origin of this India scam, but then you actually talk to the East Indian scammer. The pre-recorded message tells you that your computer services subscription will be auto-debited for $399.99 unless you respond. The message is designed to lure you to respond back and tell the scammer that you are not aware of the fake subscription and you need a refund. Then the East Indian scammer asks for your credit card number so they can issue you a refund. But as soon as you give them your credit card number, they will charge thousands of dollars to it. And since all the Caller ID phone numbers they use are either fake numbers or rotated using disposable VoIP numbers, you cannot phone them back after noticing that your credit card had no credit refund but was actually charged thousands of dollars. More than 95% of all North America phone scams originate from crowded phone rooms in India that run numerous fraud, extortion, and money laundering scams every day ranging from fake pharmacies to posing as fake Social Security or IRS officers collecting on "unpaid back taxes", fake bill collectors threatening you for fake unpaid debts, pretending to offer fake health insurance, car warranty, and debt, student loan forgiveness, credit card consolidation services, posing as Amazon to falsely say that an unauthorized purchase was made to your account or that your Prime membership was auto-debited from your credit card or bank account, posing as Microsoft or HP to say that your software needs renewal or they detected a problem with your computer, pretending to be DHL, UPS, or a bank, falsely stating that they installed ransomware virus on your computer and you need to pay them money, etc, and the scammers try to steal your credit card, bank account and routing number, or Social Security number and personal information. Some scammers try to gain your trust by looking up the name associated with your phone number and asking for you by name when they call. Many India scammers now phone you with an initial pre-recorded robotic person speaking English, Spanish, or Chinese that is easily generated using text-to-speech software to disguise the origin of their India phone room, but then you speak to the East Indian scammer when you take the bait and respond to the pre-recorded message. Scammers often either use disposable VoIP phone numbers or they spoof fake Caller ID phone numbers. Anyone, including you, can use telecom software or a third-party service to phone using fake names and phone numbers that show up on Caller ID. India scammers often spoof fake toll-free Caller ID numbers that begin with "8". India scammers do not care about the U.S. National Do-Not-Call Registry and asking scammers to stop calling has no effect. I love to play with these scammers and keep them on the phone by pretending to be interested in their scam because many scam victims are the senile elderly. You do these scammers a favor by yelling at them and immediately hanging up. But you ruin their scams by slowly dragging them along on the phone call, calling them back if their phone number can be phoned, pretending to be interested in their product or service, pretending that you are worried when they threaten you, always giving them fake credit card numbers and fake personal information, asking them to speak louder and to repeat what they said to use up more of their energy, etc. The best defense against phone scammers is a good offense by not quickly hanging up the phone, but instead toying with them for at least 10 or 20 minutes to use up more of their time and energy so they have less time to deceive an elderly victim. Never give an unknown caller your credit card number or Social Security number. Companies who already have your information may ask for the last four digits for verification. Some India scammers ask for your bank account and routing number or ask you to wire transfer them a payment, giving a fake explanation that they cannot accept a credit card or personal check. This is an instant scammer alert because scammers can withdraw money if they know your bank account and routing number (e.g. counterfeit cashed checks) and illegal wire transfers are far less traceable than unauthorized credit card charges. India scammers may threaten to have you arrested, but the IRS, Social Security Administration, and debt collectors cannot threaten to arrest or sue you on the phone; they are required to send you paper notices by registered mail. If the scam sounds very authentic, ask the scammer for their verifiable company name, street address, and a callback number, which all real businesses will provide. Every East Indian scammer will immediately fail this test since they all use spoofed fake Caller ID numbers or VoIP numbers that they quickly dispose of. Never trust any unsolicited call because they are mostly scammers, usually with a slight or strong East Indian foreign accent, and most scam calls originate from India. No other foreign country is infested with numerous noisy sweatshops filled with phone scam criminals. These India scammers belong to the lowest India caste and many are thieves, robbers, and rapists who were serving jail sentences and released early due to prison overcrowding.

This is flat-out a scam, block this number immediately. I'm on the "do not call list" which is really a joke cause the calls haven't slowed down at all. My cellphone and home phone constantly rings with bullcrap scam calls. The phone companies and the government needs to get their foot out of their rear-ends and do something about this crap.

A recorded female voice announces, "Dear Customer, your account will be debited $399.99 for auto-renewal of computer services for the next two years. To accept, press 1. Or, press 2 to be connected to a live representative. Thank you. Of course I disconnected the call immediately. They have been calling all day at half hour intervals. I reported this call to two local banks, who advised that it was a scam, and they try to get people to call back (and dispute the charges) at which time they ask them to enter their account number. Beware!

We have been receiving these call for about the last week, probably every two hours starting at 6:30 every morning. I finally called it back and the guy said he was from Geek Squad Best Buy and was trying to charge us $399.99 for a computer software program we don't even have. We are on the Do Not Call List, but it still gets through. I told them to take our number off their list and he just hung up. I called back several times to try and get removed and just kept getting a line about having a subscription from Best Buy, but we have never purchased anything such as that. I told them they are trying to scam customers into buying something. They insist it is not a SCAM and I should give them my credit card number. It is a SCAM. It has been reported to the FTC as a SCAM.

I get calls from this number daily for the past week. I have the number on block, but decided to try and call it back to see what they say. The person who answered the phone said he was checking if I want to continue my service for our computer system. I told him to please remove my number from his call list. He said, I can't do that until you answer about your service. I told him that I do not have any service through Best Buy (I can't remember the last time I even shopped there), and that I knew this was a scam. He said, "Who told you that maam?". I said he has a legal obligation to remove me from his call this if requested and he disagreed, so I just hung up. The number will continue to be blocked.

Has called my work landline 3 times today. Credit for software scam.
October 21, 2019
Have received 11 calls in 7 days from this number, decided to finally answer and was told my "software" had expired and I needed to renew it. As a retired IT professional I knew this could not be true all my software comes directly from the developers (Microsoft, Adobe, etc...). When pressed for additional information was directed to a sketchy web address. Used a computer not linked to my network to explore it. The web browser refused to load page out of security concerns and decided not to over ride it.
October 21, 2019
Starting at exactly 7:00 AM for the first call, they called seven more times! On the eighth call at a quarter after noon I answered and chewed them out. They hung up. Eight times in 5-1/4 hours. Bullshit.
October 19, 2019
I get up to five calls a day usually from this number. So far they have not left a message. This morning I have gotten three calls since 7:30 AM, it is now 8:30 AM. I have caller id so I never answer if I don't recognize the name or number. I am really tired of robo calls. Even though I never answer, they don't give up either.
October 19, 2019
I’m sick of theses calls and sick of having to turn my phone off all the time!
October 19, 2019
I've been getting a call from this number all morning. There was a message that said something about my computer services was up for renewal and they were going to charge my credit card $299.99. I pushed the button that I would like to cancel and they also tried to send me to a website. I am not aware of being previously subscribed to any computer service. I'm sure it is a scam.
October 18, 2019
I got 6 calls from this number over 2 days, most of them early in the morning. I finally called back and surprisingly a person answered. They said they are from Geek Squad through Best Buy and that I signed up for a Microsoft service on my computer 3 years ago that needs renewing. They gave me a sketchy sounding website to go to (something ending in weebly.com) to generate a cancellation code, but when I asked what I should be seeing on the site they wouldn't tell me. Thankfully I didn't go there - who knows if it contained some sort of virus. I then asked what would happen if I continue the service and they said I'd be charged $40 and they would go into my computer to install the software. I definitely didn't want to go down that path. From there I told them to stop calling me and hung up. We'll see how many more calls I get. I am very aware of what I download on my computers and what services I pay for - this is definitely a scam.
